1. How long have you been training at Reign? When did it all begin? Why Reign?
I’ve been at Reign since Fall 2015. My sister, Jessica, gifted me a 1 month trial membership along with the Fall Challenge. Jess always gets me fitness challenges and detoxes for my birthday. She always convinces me that it’ll be fun because we’ll do it together and then I normally end up hating her a week into it because she’s deprived me of all my favorite foods and will only hang out with me if we are exercising together.
The trial membership and Fall Challenge at Reign were different though. I loved meeting and getting to know the Reign coaches and community.

I had never felt as defeated and sore as I did after my first ReignFIT class, but I wanted to come back for that exact reason. I never knew I was capable of pushing myself to work so hard and I wanted to keep pushing myself to see just how far I could go. So here I am, still pushing!
2. Tell us a little about yourself. What’s a Day in the Life of Victoria?
My work day is crazy. I manage an Adult Day Health/Care program at Legacy House in the Chinatown/ID neighborhood, serving 150+ low-income Asian immigrant seniors. Many of our seniors live alone, do not speak English, and need extensive help with everyday tasks such as showering, dressing, cooking, and toileting.
Our program provides what is essentially day care for grandmas and grandpas. Our busses pick our seniors up from their homes and bring them to Legacy House for the day so they can socialize, eat lunch, exercise, and participate in activities. We talk, play bingo, do arts/crafts, practice Tai Chi, and party! I also help them up when they fall and change them when they have accidents. Most of my work day is spent running around to set up/transition from activity to activity or trying to prevent seniors from doing things that might cause them to fall. The other parts of my job entail mountains of paperwork, staffing, and case management. I end most work days pretty exhausted and stressed out so I feel like I NEED to go to the gym in order to unwind and decompress.
I try to go to Reign at least 3x/week for a combination of barbell classes and ReignFIT classes. Sometimes I don’t make it in because I have supervision meetings (I’m working on getting my social worker license) or I have tennis practice. After all the things I have to do are completed, I usually go to my boyfriend’s apartment, my mom’s house, or my grandpa’s house for dinner.
Then, I binge out on Netflix (currently watching – Narcos) or read (recently finished Open by Andre Agassi, so I’m in need of some more recommendations) until I fall asleep. This happens Monday through Friday. Now that football season is upon us, most of my weekends will revolve around setting my fantasy football lineups (for 3 different leagues), watching the games with friends, and working at the stadium.
3. What has been your biggest accomplishments here at Reign?
My conditioning at Reign has translated into an amazing tennis season for me. My overall record for the 2015 – 2016 season is currently 22 wins and 5 losses. Both my 7.0 Mixed Doubles Team and 3.0 Women’s Team won our Pacific Northwest Sectional Championships and will be advancing to compete for the National Championships in Arizona in October and November!
I’ve been playing tennis since I was 10 years old, but I’ve never won like this. In high school, my goal was always to win just 3 matches the entire season, and I think I only ever reached that goal one year. Since starting at Reign, I’m getting to the ball quicker, hitting it more confidently, and am able to push through when I do get tired in long matches. My mental game can’t be broken as easily and I don’t go into matches thinking I’ll probably lose like I used to. I used to think that my best tennis days were long over, that I would never play as well as I did when I was a junior, but now I truly believe that I am better, am continuing to improve, and will keep winning!
4. What are your future health and fitness goals you wish to accomplish at Reign?
Someday, I will get my nutrition right. It’s definitely something I’ve been missing in my health and fitness routine and probably the real reason why I haven’t set a goal weight. At the beginning of the year, I wrote on our Reign chalkboard that my goal for the year was to go to ReignFIT classes 3x/week, but now I have lots of new goals to add to that: do a pull up, handstand, 50 double-unders in a row, run a half marathon in under 2:30, row 500m in under 1:50, bike 20 cals in 60 sec, back squat 200#, deadlift 250#.
5. Tell us your favorite memory so far at Reign.
On St. Patrick’s Day, I came to class a little too early and was peer pressured (thanks, Albert and Jess) into doing the Beer Mile with Austin and Elmer. The Beer Mile consists of chugging a beer and running 400m for 4 rounds (until you reach a mile). I was close to finishing when class had started with warm ups, but then I threw up, mostly missing the garbage can. After getting myself together, I proceeded to join the class and completed my first buzzed workout. Add “successfully complete the Beer Mile without vomiting” to my list of goals to be accomplished lol
6. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
GOLD, the sparkly kind with actual glitter! Because glitter is so much fun!
7. What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
“Palawan”. Jess and I are headed to the Philippines for her bestie’s wedding and are planning to do some backpacking afterwards. This will be my first international trip since graduating from college in 2012, so I’m super excited!
8. What’s your favorite exercise, workout, movement and why? What’s your least favorite and why?
I have come to really love box jumps! When I attempted my first box jump, I completely psyched myself out and swung my arms a little too wildly for momentum. I ended up whacking one of my knuckles into the box and finished the class with a pretty gnarly cut that would not stop bleeding. It took me about a month before I found the courage to attempt another box jump, but I did it and now I love them! I also love barbell work.
The assault bike is the worst. Sometimes it feels like I’m on there forever and will never make it to the number of cals I’m supposed to hit.

11. What advice would you give to anyone looking to start their fitness journey?
“You are only in competition with yourself.”
It’s easy to look at others and feel discouraged when you compare yourself where you are now to how beastly others have gotten in the however many years they’ve been training. Even after almost a year of training at Reign, I’m still almost always one of the last to finish WODs. But I finish and I’m always proud of myself for finishing. Just focus on pushing YOURSELF to YOUR fullest and results will follow. You’ll see it and you’ll feel it. And we’ll be here to cheer you on!
12. What’s your favorite starburst flavor?
The pink one!
13. If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
Probably a panda because they get to eat and sleep all day. Or possibly a dinosaur because they’re regal and beastly.
14. What are your hobbies outside of Reign? With your family?
I love playing tennis! I play on 3 different teams/formats: women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Serena Williams is my queen! I also love to eat home cooked meals with my family. My favorite thing to do at dinner is test my 97 year-old grandpa on if he remembers who I am. He’s been getting it right lately, even after my haircut!
