I really can’t say enough good things about December’s Reign Fitness Member of The Month because she’s awesome!

By just telling you that our Member of The Month is Jessica Young, I know that all of you will not only agree but instantly think of the first time she’s helped, motivated, encouraged, and inspired you.

Jessica is definitely a lead by example type of person who not only welcomes a challenge but gives it %110 of her effort until she can check it off her to-do list.

One of the coolest things about her is that regardless of whether she’s having a good or a bad day…

When she walks into the gym, she’s always smiling and happy to see everyone. It really is amazing to have someone like her in your family/community because people like Jessica really become the glue that holds everyone together.

We just wanted to take a second to say thank you for being an amazing member and tell you how much we appreciate you.

You truly exemplify the saying that dynamite comes in small packages!

Here is Jessica!

Name:  Jessica Young

Age:       27

Occupation: Number Cruncher aka Accountant

What inspired you to come to Reign?

I learned about Reign from my awesome bedmate Joanna K who was seeing Mesha for her nutrition goals. I had just had an appendectomy surgery which prevented me from going to the gym and made me feel so weak. Mesha helped me get started on a healthier lifestyle change by eating better and invited me to try a ReignFIT class out. I remember feeling welcomed by the members and never once did I feel like an outsider. That led to joining the 6 Week New Year’s Challenge and seeing results I have never seen before and the rest is history; I became addicted and knew I had to join the #reignfitfam after Jodeci’s convincing persuasion and of course the jar of hair ties in the women’s restroom!!

Tell us a little about yourself. What’s a Day in the Life of Jessica?

BEING AWESOME!.. but really it’s always on the go. Depending on the day, I’m usually awake at 4amor 5am after hitting snooze a gazillion times. M/W/F mornings I’m headed to Reign for Willie’s energetic class at 5 AM while listening to Brooke & Jubal on 92.5. Love those Phone Taps and 2nd date updates, haha! I usually get into work at 7am and my day begins. I don’t have a set list of things to do, so it just depends on what my 100+ customers need or want from me. I work in Accounts Receivable so I’m all about collecting that money! Around the end and beginning of each month, it’s a crazy period of meetings, deadlines and reports, so I make sure to schedule workouts in to help destress. On T/Th, I make sure I’m out of the office by 3:30 to go train with Mesha at 4. After training, I chug a protein shake on the way home, cook up something yummy for me and the bf. Watch a bit of TV and then it’s off to bed by 9/10.. (Yes, I sleep early!). On the weekends, if the Seahawks are playing at home, you’ll find me working at the game, otherwise I’m finding new foods to try and going on adventures.

Being at Reign is my “happy hour.” No matter what kind of mood I am from the day, I ALWAYS feel better and am in a better mood after going to Reign, despite how horrible or torturous the finisher/conditioning is.

What has been your biggest accomplishments here at Reign?

I remember before signing up to join Reign, I told Mesha that if I did, she would help me complete a marathon! I started running 5ks back in 2011 and worked my way up to 10ks and a handful of Half Marathons, but that full marathon was still unchecked on my bucket list. Don’t get me wrong, I HATE running (and still do) but I do it to prove to my former 16-minute mile, last in the mile run tests self that I CAN. With the endless support of the #reignfitfam and awesome coaches, I crossed the finish line of the 2015 Chicago Marathon! Now who wants to run with me?

Favorite Cheat Meal?

I love the Steak Nachos with a White Peach Sangria from Matador (can’t beat their awesome Happy Hour prices!) or the Carne Asada Fries from Memo’s on The Ave in U District.

Who is your HERO and why?

My Mom! She’s so selfless and generous that it’s amazing. She’s always been there for our family and supported everything we wanted to try or do. Never has she said we can’t do this or we can’t do that. She cooks awesome food and is there whenever I need her. Luckily she’s retired now so hopefully she’s spending some quality time on herself after taking care of our family for all these years.

If you could go on ‘America’s Got Talent,’ what would you showcase?

Like Megan, I have the ability to sleep anytime and anywhere! Seriously, my friends from high school will never let me live it down that while we went to karaoke, I fell asleep in the corner, music blasting and all.

What’s your favorite exercise and why? What’s your least favorite and why?

My favorite has to be BB Back Squats! They make a booty look good.. or at least that’s what my friends are saying, haha.

Least favorite are the DB & Med Ball Thrusters and Wall Balls (I tend to get hit in the face).. For the life of me I can’t seem to get that coordinated in one fluid motion!!

What advice would you give to anyone looking to start their fitness journey?

Congrats! You’ve gotten over the hardest hurdle so far which is wanting to start!  It will get easier over time with each workout and the best part about joining the #reignfitfam is that you’re never, ever alone in your journey.

To keep the fitness motivation going, personally, I’m a visual person and enjoy little rewards. So each month (or start of a challenge), I create a calendar and schedule all my workouts. Every time I complete a workout, I check it off or put a sticker to help me visually see what I’ve done. I’ll set a goal to complete 3 workouts in a row or 5 a week and then reward myself with something small I’ve been having my eye on, like a cookbook, kitchen accessory, new workout top or even a candle, lol.

Favorite television show?

Lip Sync Battle and The Big Bang Theory.

Favorite song to workout to?

Anything that’s being played at Reign. I don’t really notice the words but if it has a good BPM (beats per minute), it will keep me going. At one point, the song by Flo Rida, Robin Thick & Verdine White “I Don’t Like It, I Love It” was stuck in my head.

If you could be on any television show, which show would it be? Why?

I would love to be on Family Feud. I think Steve Harvey is hilarious and it would be fun being on a game show with family & friends. Not sure who I would take though…. Anyone interested?

You’re stuck on a deserted island… what 3 things will you bring with you & why?

A yacht to take me back home! – JUST KIDDING.
1) A good book that would keep me entertained and would be useful if I ever needed it to save my life (start a fire for warmth)
2) A good pair of shoes so I can go explore around the island and maybe find food and shelter
3) A hammock to sleep, lounge on and if need be, use to fish for food!

Fill In The Blank…

I Love… my Family, Friends, Fitness & Food! Oh and also to have fun! 🙂

I Am… amazed at what a year 2015 has been and all the wonderful memories with loved ones. I’m very happy and fortunate to be where I am today.

I Wish… everyone happiness and courage. My favorite quote of all time is from Walt Disney, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

I Eat…EVERYTHING… or well almost everything. I’m a foodie and am always looking to try new foods.

I am truly grateful and fortunate to have found Reign Fitness! Working out with awesome coaches and the wonderful #reignfitfam has made learn to love my body and most importantly: myself. ❤
